Junior High School Conducts Fourth Annual Choral Festival

On May 15, 2012 the fourth annual Lancaster Junior High School Choral Festival combined seventh and eighth grade students to make some cross-town harmony at Fairfield Christian Church.

The concert featured General Sherman and Thomas Ewing Junior High Schools under the direction of Catherine Brown and Marcy Layne. The choirs gave individual performances and combined its 275 students for their grand finale under the direction of guest conductor, Jonathan Busarow.

Busarow serves as the Director of the Valparaiso University Men’s Choir and was recently named Artistic Director of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. Busarow worked with the students during the day and applauded them and their directors.

The point of the festival is simple and yet profound. When asked, Layne said, “It’s about two sides of town coming together to celebrate the gift of music and to showcase that gift to enrich the greater Lancaster community.”

The Lancaster Junior High School Choral Festival was founded by the two directors of the junior high programs, Marcy Layne and Catherine Brown.
