LATE START FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2011

Once again, Lancaster City Schools will conduct six late starts. Students will attend school on a two-hour delay in order for teachers to attend Robert Marzano’s High Yield Strategies professional development. Research concludes that the Marzano High Yield Strategies have a high probability of enhancing student achievement for all students in all subject areas at all grade levels.
Strategies covered during 2011-2012 will include:
                        Homework and Practice
                        Generating and Testing Hypothesis
                        Cooperative Learning
In August 2010, two teachers from each building were trained to present the Marzano professional development. They then trained all the other teachers in their buildings during the late starts. Teachers were provided the job-embedded professional development during the first late start, returned to the classroom to implement the strategy, and then shared their ideas and experiences at the next late start. Teachers enjoyed the collaboration and obtaining new skills.
            Strategies covered during 2010-2011 include:
                        Setting Objectives and Providing Feedback
                        Summarizing and Note Taking
                        Nonlinguistic Representations
                        Identifying Similarities and Differences
