LHS Art Student is Artsonia’s “Artist of the Week”
Artsonia.com is a worldwide, online art gallery designed specifically for students. Each week, the site selects artworks from each of four age categories to compete for “Artist of the Week”. Online voting opens on Wednesdays and closes on Saturdays. During the week of September 11th, Lancaster High School students, staff, and parents spread the word to vote for Senior Savannah Smith’s acrylic painting, Boardwalk. Thanks to the voting efforts, Savannah’s painting won top honors in the Grades 10-12 category.
“I was experimenting with a monochromatic, black and white, color scheme….The small points of color in the painting add a sense of the prevailing joy we all have to have during the rainy times as we walk down the boardwalk of life. The bright blue lamps at the tops of the poles also promise that while the rain can be dark and depressing, the light will come back eventually,” explains Smith in her artist’s statement.
The Art supply company, Dick Blick, will award Savannah with a gift certificate and plaque. Her artwork, along with many others from Lancaster City Schools’ young artists, may be viewed at Artsonia.com.
