IDENTIFYING STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES, STATE OF OHIO CHILD FIND

Identifying Students with Disabilities, State of Ohio Child Find

The state of Ohio has implemented Child Find. The intent of Child Find is that all children from birth through age 21 with delays or disabilities are identified, located and evaluated to receive the supports and services they need.

Lancaster City Schools is responsible for "finding" eligible children and providing services needed for them to reach their developmental milestones or meet their educational needs.

The Lancaster City Schools is again seeking to identify resident students between the ages of 3 and 21 who may exhibit difficulties with mobility, voice or hearing, vision, physical limitations due to orthopedic or muscle abnormalities, cognitive, language, or emotional difficulties.

If you know a child who resides in the Lancaster City School District with one or more of the difficulties listed above, please encourage the parent(s) to contact the Department of Student Services at (740) 687-7360 to schedule an appointment.

A member of our team will initiate a referral for a screening or possible evaluation. In order to receive early intervention or special education services, a child must be evaluated to confirm that they have a delay or disability that falls under state definitions.

If you have a child or know of a child you feel may be delayed in any of the areas listed above and is younger than 3 years old, referrals can be made through the Help Me Grow Program at (740) 681- 4881.

Please feel free to call and request additional information, or ask any questions regarding our service.
