THOMAS EWING STUDENTS PERFORMED AT MIDWEST KODALY MUSIC EDUCATORS OF AMERICA CONFERENCE

The weekend of October 22, 2011, Seven Thomas Ewing eighth grade choir students performed at the Midwest Kodaly Music Educators of America, (MKMEA), conference, “Piecing It All Together.” The students are McKenzie Bates, Chloe Kessler, Emily Johnson, Olivia Hubbard, Mallory Schmelzer, Emily Christ, and Emily Swick. The conference was held in Columbus, OH. They performed under the direction of Deborah Lamb, music specialist in St. Louis Park Schools in Minnesota.
These students were nominated by Thomas Ewing Choir director, Mrs. Marcy Layne, last May. These students prepared and memorized their seven pieces which included two African pieces, a piece from Brazil, as well as other traditional songs, such as “Simple Gifts,” and “A Trumpet Song.” The Honor Choir consisted of 90 fifth through eighth grade members from 14 states in the Midwest. Their performance was held at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Columbus.
