Jump Rope for Heart- 2012
The physical education classes at Tallmadge participated in a special Jump Rope for Heart event during the week of Feb. 20-24. This important event helped teach the students the importance of physical activity as it relates to heart disease, the number one cause of death across the United States. All students were encouraged to exercise daily, to eat healthy, and to stay away from smoking, drugs, and alcohol. The boys and girls were taught neat jump roping skills that could be used to strengthen their own hearts and improve their overall fitness. A “Wall of Hearts” containing names of family members who have been afflicted by some form of heart disease was built in the hallway at Tallmadge.
The Jump Rope for Heart event was also a fundraiser to support the American Heart Association in furthering its lifesaving research and educational programs to reduce heart disease and stroke. Around 60 students participated in the fundraiser, raising a grand total of $2,363.00. The top fundraising class was Mrs. Ward’s 3rd grade class which collected $695.50. The top fundraisers in each class received a special Jump Rope for Heart medal and had their picture taken for LSN. All students who participated in the fundraiser will receive “Thank-you” gifts. Thanks to all the students, families and community members who donated money to help others.
