Medill Elementary continues to be nationally recognized as a Core Knowledge School. Though the state Academic Content Standards are followed for all grade levels, Core Knowledge provides highly researched supplemental content to strengthen our children’s knowledge base. Our commitment is to provide every student with rich and meaningful content in every subject area. The Core Knowledge Sequence provides a solid, coherent guideline for specific content which should be covered at each grade level. Rather than assume that each child has been taught specific content “somewhere” in their elementary career, the Core Knowledge Curriculum ensures exposure to key content at each grade level.
The Core Knowledge Sequence is the result of a long process of research and consensus-building, undertaken by the non-profit Core Knowledge Foundation. The Core Knowledge Sequence is distinguished by its specificity, rather than typical curricula which only provides a general guideline concerning skills.
