Welcome to the 2021-22 school year. We are excited to see everyone back!
At Medill Elementary, we believe that all children have something unique to offer to our school family. We recognize that we have to teach acceptance of self and others. To be successful in school, students must be able to regulate their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. We have set aside thirty minutes every morning to provide direct instruction in these skills. This month, our schoolwide theme will be about building our community. In our morning announcements and our daily second step lessons, we’ll be working to make connections and build relationships. Additionally, we’ll be reminding students of our school rules: Be Safe, Respectful, Responsible and Caring.
Embedded in our core literacy curriculum are "habits of character" that further enrich our students' social-emotional learning. Students work to become effective learners, develop mindsets and skills for success in college, career, and life; work to become ethical people, treat others well and stand up for what is right and work to contribute to a better world, and put their learning to use to improve communities. Both of these programs fit perfect with our 4 school wide expectations of being safe, responsible, respectful and caring.
We have several new staff members joining us this year. In Kindergarten we are welcoming Mrs. Suzanne Collier to our team. Mrs. Laura Smith is moving into a Title Teacher position. In 5th grade we are welcoming Miss Amy Wanamaker and Mr. Adrian Wymer. Mr. Matthew Holdcroft will be our new Art teacher. Miss Tina Hedges will now be one of our Library Associates. We will have Mr. Chris Voight joining us as an instructional aide. Mrs. Deborah Hustler and Mrs. Emily Bailey will be two of our Special Education Aides. Mrs. Judy Braden will be our second shift Custodian. Miss Tessa Whittredge is our School Psychologist. Brynn Hoffman is our new Special Education Supervisor. We are excited to have these amazing people join our team.
Looking forward to a great year!
