Home Schooling
In Ohio, parents interested in educating their children at home may do so by notifying their local school district superintendent and meeting the requirements of Ohio law to home educate (§ORC 3321.042). Click here for more information: HOME SCHOOLING
Online or Virtual Learning
Many parents think that Online Schools fall into the category of home education; this is NOT true. In Ohio, online schools are considered internet-based community schools (e-schools in Ohio = Online Ohio Public School) or district operated online learning schools. There is no permission required from the home school district.
If your student is enrolled in an online school based out of state, you must notify your district of residence that your student will be attending an out of state school. You do not need to provide an intent to home educate.
REQUIREMENTS TO HOME SCHOOL/HOME EDUCATE:
- Notify your school district of residence about your intent to home school within 5 days after commencing home education or by the 30th of August each year thereafter OHIO HOME EDUCATION NOTIFICATION FORM
- Provide instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History, Government, and Social Studies
